Silas DeLong was an old Civil War Veteran. He was wounded in the leg at the battle of Peach Creek in Georgia. The wound troubled him for the rest of his life, often having to use crutches to get around. Shortly after the war, he came to Bangor and started one of the first businesses in the community. He is one of only a handful of businessmen who remained in this town all of his life. Mr. DeLong was married but never had children, although he had several nieces and nephews. He was a brother to Henry DeLong, who also has a short sketch of his life in this section. Any connections to Silas DeLong would probably be made through his brother Henry. |
