Dr. John R. Giffen was a native of Ontario, Canada. He received his medical degree from Williamette University in 1892. In 1894 he came to Bangor and went into practice with Dr. A. B. Camp. Eventually he had an office on the second floor over the drug stores in the Harvey Block (now the Great Lakes Cafe). Mary Slawson became his bride in 1899 and to that union there was one daughter, Mrs. Ashel Miller. His wife died in 1938. Dr. Giffen was a member of several medical societies, the Masons and the Congregational Church. We would like to know if there are any close family members of the good doctor, who could inform us about his life. |
